Paolo Bellantonio

Paolo Bellantonio was born in Naples in 1965.  Since childhood, Paolo has been interested in the sea and everything related to the sea.  Above all else, he was interested in ship building since his father owned a shipyard.  His interest grew and manifested in the building of ship models, first on a small scale and then on large scale.

Below is a recent work of the"Achille Lauro" which burned and sank in the Indian Ocean in 1994.

Paolo has won many prizes for his work including:

Gold Medal 1998 - Meta - Peschereccio "Nordkap"
Gold Medal 1999 -  Paglieta - Liberty "J. O'Brien"
Gold Medal 2000 - Paglieta - "Achille Lauro"
Gold Medal 2001 - Naples - Tugboat "Titano"
Certificate 1998 - Livorno - "Gozzo Sorrentino"
Certificate 1999 - Eboli - Schooner "Bluenose"

Paolo does not use assembly boxes, but the original plans obtained from museums or ship modeling associations from around the world.  This allows Paolo to create an exact reproduction of the original.  Paolo primarily works in wood, but can also work in resin and fiberglass upon request.  The ship model is very important because it is the only means available to the designer to see what he has designed.  Even computer-aided design does not give the details with the same precision.  Using ship models, the ship builder can best demonstrate the full range of his production capabilities.
